Top 10 Most-Played Songs from My DJ Library
Hey Party People!
I use high-end DJ software, and one of its coolest features is tracking how many times I’ve played each song. Naturally, I sort my library by play count when mixing to revisit the tracks that consistently bring the energy to my events. In this post, I’m excited to share my Top 10 Most-Played Songs with you, along with some insights into why these tracks have become staples in my sets.
Ask any DJ, and there’s a good chance many of these songs will show up on their list, too. They’re proven hits that get people of all ages out on the floor. If you haven’t heard some of these in a while—or if you want to hear them again—I’ve included links for each song. Let’s get into it!
10. Dancing Queen - ABBA
This is the first classic on the list, and for good reason: it transcends generations! Both kids and adults know this one, making it a go-to for weddings and Bat Mitzvahs. There’s nothing quite like watching a bride or a Mitzvah Girl hit the dance floor as the “Dancing Queen of the Night.” The energy is electric, the lyrics are iconic, and ABBA’s legacy lives on through moments like these.
9. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
This 80s anthem earned its spot here thanks to Rickrolling. It became an internet prank in the late 2000’s where someone is tricked into clicking a link that unexpectedly leads to the music video for this song. The joke lies in the element of surprise and the song's catchy, upbeat nature. Beyond the joke, it’s also a genuinely great tune. I often get requests to rickroll the crowd at events by playing it randomly, and I’m always happy to oblige—unless the client prefers we skip it, of course. Either way, this track never fails to bring a moment of humor and fun.
8. Fireball - Pitbull
Pitbull has countless tracks that light up events, but this one stands out for me as the ultimate Conga Line anthem. After the Hora at Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, I ask guests to line up behind the guest of honor, and we take a fun lap (or two) around the room. It’s upbeat, high-energy, and perfectly captures that Latin party vibe.
7. Shut Up and Dance - Walk The Moon
This song has it all: a catchy beat, an infectious chorus, a fast pace, and lyrics that demand everyone to hit the floor. Even though Walk The Moon isn’t the most widely recognized artist, this track has become a staple at events. Watching everyone belt out “SHUT UP AND DANCE WITH ME!” never gets old. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
6. Levitating - Dua Lipa
This is the most modern track on the list, and it’s been climbing the ranks thanks to the number of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs I’ve DJ’d over the past few years. Dua Lipa’s 2020 album Future Nostalgia channels a retro vibe, and “Levitating” is the perfect blend of old-school influence and fresh energy. The chill, bouncy beat and recognizable lyrics make it one of my most requested songs.
5. September - Earth, Wind, & Fire
Contrary to the last song, this one is all for the adults in the crowd! This peak 70’s disco-era classic is all about feel-good vibes and universal appeal. It’s a guaranteed hit with the adults in the room, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how many kids know and love it, too. The opening hook—“Do you remember the 21st night of September?”—gives it an extra boost of relevance on that date, making it an even more iconic choice. Earth, Wind & Fire never disappoints.
4. Cupid Shuffle - Cupid
This is the only line dance to make my top 10, but it’s earned its spot. The Cupid Shuffle is a personal favorite because it’s accessible to everyone. The steps are easy to follow: four steps to the right, four steps to the left, four kicks, then a 90-degree turn. Add a funky beat and Cupid’s instructions in the lyrics, and you have a dance-floor hit that I’m always looking forward to playing at any event.
3. Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
This 2009 pop anthem is yet another track with universal appeal. Kids love it, parents remember it, and it’s hard to resist singing along to the chorus, which starts with, “So I put my hands up…” The energy it brings to the dance floor makes it a consistent favorite, no matter the event. What more can a DJ ask for?
2. Low - Flo Rida
“Low” has been a staple in my sets for years. Its appeal spans generations, making it a hit with partygoers of all ages. One of my favorite moments is playing this at a wedding and pointing to the bride during the lyric, “The whole club was looking at her!” I personally love the beat as it’s one of the best to breakdance to, especially during the verses. One of the easiest songs to step-clap to. An iconic 2000s smash hit!
1. Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars
Finally, at the top of the list, it’s “Uptown Funk”. This 2014 hit took the world by storm. We all remember hearing it nonstop, and it hasn’t lost its charm, being in the top 100 most-streamed songs on Spotify and being the 4th most-viewed music video on YouTube. This song appeals to all ages: kids, young adults, adults, and grandparents. Its high energy and funky beat make it the ultimate crowd-pleaser, and my most played track of all time.
So, there you have it—my Top 10 Most-Played Tracks! These songs have consistently brought the energy to my events, and I’m sure the list will evolve as I keep discovering new music.
What do you think? Do you agree with my picks, or do you have a different go-to playlist? If you’re curious about where other tracks fall in my library, let me know—I’d love to share more!
